Travis – Closer

There are not many songs that you know from the first note it’s going to be a hit, but Closer is definitely one of them.

I first heard it in Kyle XY and ever since I kept hearing it in my head every time I thought about the show. I had to find out who was the singer/artist. After a bit of research I found out it was Travis is a Scottish band quite similar to Coldplay.

Black Hat is getting even more popular

Ok, I am a normal person, never really thought too much about Black Hat SEO techniques since by definition is a nearly sure way to get banned from various services, but lately I’ve seen plenty of articles related to this area, so it’s hard not to wonder why this is happening. Google hacked and slashed through blogs everywhere (I didn’t really get any major hit so far, but it is still a concern).

And so I read about lots and lots of ideas, including this one on
Anthology of Ideas, which pretty much found a way to create a 3-way linking scheme using popular websites such as Technorati to raise your own PageRank.

I’m not sure PR is really the issue here, but more your general number of links. What this technique does (which I don’t find illegal or destructive in any way), is to link to people that link to you. It might sound complicated, but it’s quite normal: by linking to people who consider your website interesting, you raise their PR, their credibility in the end, and since they link to your website as well, you benefit from this as well. Generically speaking, you tight the bonds between your website and related links.

Quite smart.

A crap called Real

The big bad amazing extraordinary awesome incredible Real opened its gates for Bucharest yesterday! Hurray! Ok, now that we said it from a commercial point of view, you might even want to go there, right? Well, I did. I went there at 5pm and saw aabout 50 people waiting in a queue to get in. I thought it was a promotion or something, so I waited a bit and a miracle happened. All those people were allowed to get inside, so I was one of the lucky ones that got in without having to wait!

Why do I say lucky? Well, take a look at the photo I took when I got out half an hour later:

Yes! All those people wait in that queue to enter a hypermarket!

They wait for an hour to get inside and buy some damn sugar and oil!

And this happens in … no, not in Africa, in 2007 in Romania, member of the European Union.

Of course, you might think products are at half price, or that they give stuff for free perhaps? Actually, the biggest discount I found was for about 50 cents. Yes, that’s half a dollar “discount”.

It’s simply incredible how some people think, or better said, don’t.

And for those that have no idea where Bucharest is, Real is not the first hypermarket or anything, there are at least 10 more only in Bucharest. So .. yeah, next time you feel like laughing, take a trip there, it will pretty much feel like a trip though time.

Fido – or why do we love zombies so much?

I have to admit, I didn’t see any original movies for a bit, especially comedies (yay for yet another movie with Adam Sandler). But then I found Fido. I have to admit, it didn’t found like much – well, it did sound like a dog, but never mind that.

I am a fan of zombie movies (and games really – Resident Evil anyone?), so as soon as I found out this one’s about zombies I knew I have to give it a chance. And I sure am glad I did.

I don’t know about you, but when I hear a tune I like it gets into my mind in less than a second … and it sure likes to stay there for a while.

I’m not a particular fan of house/trance/electronic music, but this line sounds far too good to miss it: Tomorrow never comes until it’s too late.

It caught my attention in a friend’s car and soon after I found out it’s DJ Shadow Feat. Mos Def – Six Days The Remix from The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift OST, and here are some of the lyrics that I find quite deep really (and very much sounds like a theme song for anyone who is at work).
